You Cannot Die Here

September 12, 2017

I know you don't expect me here.

At fourteen I had lost four teeth,

then that accident where i lost my spirit,

and the only one who could be my wife.

so now at thirty, why am I still with my life?

I know you don't expect me here,

I'm even shocked, myself..

I tried, but was told "you cannot die here"

I'm one project death keep passing forward.

If the witches are not on recess, they have had enough.

So I had to go somewhere else.

I went to the creeks, but the chiefs could not agree.

The capons said, when my mouth is open,

I look like a smile.

So I went where smiles were needed.

And they said I was ugly..That I had lost four teeth...As if I did not know.

And then they added, "you cannot die here"

Death would not come, so I planned to visit,

But they all warned me.

That in life I was ugly, in death I would be worse.

"but if you must, you cannot die here"

And then I thought of sambisa, but was told..

That the forest has moved..

So I managed living, because death was out of reach.

I know you don't expect me here,

But I had been there and everywhere else.

I had been opium to the ugly,

Sharing hope as if, I was running for president.

But whenever I tried, I would be told.

"you cannot die here"

They all Feared I would be a ghost..

Or worse still, an ancestor…

And none wanted an ugly ancestor.

Then came the recession...

I know you didn't expect it here.

many are leaving; they cannot live here.

Others chose death , the visa is easier...

And these smiling left-overs:

the side-effect of too much hope;

the eternally smiling skulls...

Very dead, yet very happy.

But my case is different,

My share is not fair.

For I cannot leave, I cannot live,

and I cannot die here...
